9. Development Trust Research
Speakers: James Henderson, What Works Scotland & Neil Stott & Dr Michelle Fava, Cambridge Centre for Social Innovation
There is an increasing academic interest in development trusts and DTAS has been involved in 2 research studies within the last year – both involving case studies of members. This workshop offers an opportunity to hear about, and discuss, the key findings from the research, as well as the potential link between academic research and development trust activity.
10. Participatory Budgeting
Speaker: Jan Pringle, Burnfoot Community Futures
The Scottish Government has set a target a target of at least 1% of all local government spending being decided through participatory budgeting (PB) by the end of 2021. This session provides an opportunity to reflect on what PB has to offer and experiences of its use by DTAS members to date.
11. Community Led Social Prescribing
Speakers: Brendan Rooney - Healthy ‘n ‘Happy, Peter Taylor - Annexe Communities & June Vallance - Getting Better Together
Recognising that people’s health is determined primarily by a range of social, economic and environmental factors, social prescribing seeks to address people’s needs in a holistic way. Social prescribing schemes can involve a variety of activities which are typically provided by voluntary and community sector organisations – learn about this progressive way of finding solutions to health issues locally.
12. Middlesteep Quarter - A Model for Town Centre Regeneration
Speaker: Matt Baker, Dumfries High Street Ltd
This session focusses on the Middlesteep Quarter in Dumfries and offers an opportunity to hear about their innovative model for community led town centre regeneration using a range of approaches from Community Empowerment and Land Reform legislation.
13. Invest in What Matters!
Speakers: James Proctor & Toby Sandison , Community Shares Scotland
From harbours to heritage, energy to education, come along and be inspired by how community shares can be used to fund "What Matters" to communities across the country. This interactive session will be a mix of case studies and a discussion of ideas, old and new. Presented by the staff of the pioneering Community Shares Scotland programme that has supported over £10 million of investment in community enterprise since 2014.
