Events and Demonstration Projects

Promoting Asset Transfer Seminars

An important element of the Promoting Asset Transfer programme was a series of 10 seminars - some aimed at a local authority audience and others at a community audience. These seminars:

  • Explored the benefits and risks of community asset ownership and assets transfers.
  • Identified and disseminated lessons from effective practice
  • Provided training, toolkits and other practical resources
  • Provided targeted support in selected local authority areas to develop a joint strategy and action plan on assets transfer.

The seminars were held in different locations throughout Scotland in Balintore, Blantyre, Dundee, Hawick and Maud, between May, 2010 and March, 2011 and were so popular that every seminar had a waiting list.   As a result of attending these seminars some local authorities arranged for DTAS staff to deliver extra seminars for their own staff and/or community organisations.

Demonstration Projects

DTA Scotland has also run a number demonstration projects which:

  • Supported partnerships of local authorities and community groups in selected local areas to develop and implement asset transfer strategies and policies
  • Supported the transfer of one or two assets in each selected area to build confidence in the feasibility and benefits of asset transfer through a partnership approach;
  • Identify key lessons from the demonstration projects and assess their impact on future policy and practice.
