The Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust

What We Do:

HSCHT is a registered charity set up in 1998 to help rural communities secure long term solutions to their local housing needs.

Since then we have made affordable rural homes a reality for local households and communities across the length and breadth of the Highlands. We represent a wide range of interests including communities, local government, landowners, crofters and housing associations.

By helping rural communities better understand, present and ultimately meet their needs for additional affordable housing we play an important role in actively supporting their long term viability.

• Assess local community housing needs

• Find and buy sites for affordable rural housing development

• Create serviced house plots and sell them at a discount to local people

• Build highly sustainable affordable homes

• Assist with access to government grants

• Assist landowners and community groups

• Buy, improve and rent properties for key workers

"Housing and people - the future of rural communities"
We often see housing as something which is special and seperate, we forget that we live in communities and that housing and communities are special! This event will challenge and inform anyone with an interest in housing and developing local communities - Landowners, contractors, community land trusts, councillors, tenants, community councillors, housing staff and people who live and work in rural communities! . The conference will end with a presentation and questions from Chief Secretary to the Treasury: Rt Hon Danny Alexander MP.
