How We Started

Ballater (population about 1500) lies in open country in west Aberdeenshire some 40 miles west of Aberdeen. Now within the Cairngorms National Park, it is an attractive destination for tourists. However, the idyllic location hides some real difficulties which are highlighted by the shortage of low-cost accommodation and the remoteness from support services. Ballater (RD) Ltd (or BRD) was formed in 1996 to provide economic and social support for Ballater and surrounding area.

What We Do

BRD engages in a variety of activities including, for example: Operating a Community Bus and providing MiDAS training courses. Organising a Walking Festival which raises approximately £20,000 for the local economy. Maintaining two websites supporting and promoting the local area. Providing support for both local residents and businesses.
