How We Started
Callander Community Development Trust was established following extensive local consultations and action planning under the Community Futures programme. CCDT undertakes certain of the projects identified ( as being wanted by the community) in the 2003 and 2008 Callander Community Action Plans.
What We Do
To date CCDT has run Farmers’ Markets, made improvements to the town centre with floral displays, run the annual Callander Spring Clean, and secured funds for a mentoring scheme for local land managers. The annual Festive Lights display has been extended each year. The Trust has several sub-groups, each headed by representatives from the Board of Directors, working on the following projects
• Acquiring St Kessog’s Building for redevelopment into a multi-cultural events facility
• Callander & Climate Change…reducing Callander’s carbon footprint
• Improvements to biodiversity, access and interpretation at Coilhallan Woods
• Feasibility study for a small hydropower project
• New visitors information boards
• A market showcasing local produce
• A Youth Hub and mountain biking trails
• Rebuilding Bracklinn Bridge
CCDT is also involved in a strategic review of publicly owned assets in Callander and how these are utilized.
