How We Started

What We Do

The main focus of the organisation is to preserve, conserve, restore and improve the Catrine Voes (reservoirs which supplied water for the former Catrine cotton works and is now a designated Local Nature Reserve), and surrounding areas, including the Weir on the River Ayr which is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The Trust have entered into a formal partnership with East Ayrshire Council to plan, secure funding for and implement works to restore the Wier and Voes.

The Trust also owns and manages a small area of woodland. In general terms the Trust has a fairly broad remit to undertake a range of activities so long as these are for the benefit of the local community. With regard to specific projects, the Trust organised a walking festival, fair and music event in the village in June of this year and it is hoped that this will continue in future years.

The Trust are about to commence with the construction of a Fish Hatchery, which will be paid for through grant funding and this will bring enviornmental, wildlife, leisure, tourism and educational benefits. The Trust is also pursuing a major proposal for an environmental education centre on the River Ayr, to include two fully operational half sized replica Fairbairn water wheels.
