Area of Operation:
Isle of Cumbrae, North Ayrshire
South West (Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway)
How We Started
CCDC was formed in 2002 after a sustained period of community action which focused on the saving and restoring a landmark building - Garrison House -, which has significant civil and architectural importance, and is sited in the main village of Millport.
What We Do
CCDC set up its own wholly owned subsidiary company with a project manager, which managed the Garrison House project, with a restoration budget of £4.7m.
The refurbished building opened in January 2008 and houses the library, council offices, a one stop shop, cafe, a museum of the Cumbraes, and a room for the University of the Highlands and Islands. On the upper floor there will be a doctor's surgery and dispensary.
