How We Started

HnH was established by local people in 2002 as a charitable local voluntary organisation based around a simple mission of:

'working with you to improve lives and make Cambuslang and Rutherglen healthier and happier for all'

What We Do

We are led by, respond to, and work with the people and communities of Cambuslang and Rutherglen.  Over the past 8 years we have demonstrated that by brining local communities, individual groups and agencies together we can bring about change inside communities.

HnH have consciously developed as a diverse organisation with a wide range of services and activities, subjects and styles.  We realise that health improvement, and indeed life improvement, in one area only may have a positive impact on that area of health or wellbeing, but may not maintain overall health unless a broader perspective is provided.  For example, alcohol awareness may prevent issues arising related to alcohol, but it does not address any potential risks associated with diet or fitness.  Our service portifolio is built on the approach of holism and encouragement to beneficiaries to engage beyond their initial subject of enquiry.

Our current range of services and products are grouped to ensure effective use of the knowledge and skills within our current staff complement.

1. Supporting Communites - Consultation, Engagement and Development

2. Mental and Emotional Health and Wellbeing

3. Promoting Healthy Choices

4. Community Broadcasting and Digital Media

5. Volunteering Opportunities and Supported Placements

6. Family Health and Resilience

HnH's acts as the glue which brings together local people with service providers, and encourages community involvement in decision-making processes.

HnH's reputation is for innovative, creative and often unique ways of presenting ideas and designing activities and services.  This is our strength, and is enabled by being positioned with the 3rd sector.  Over the past 8 years, our approach has enabled us to develop as a social enterprise.  Together with our aspirations and clear plans, our experience has enabled us to have an increased and increasing focus on enterprising trading activity.

Our Future Plans

Our service development plans in this area are ambitious and radical.  They stem from combining the key strengths and lessons from what we already do, with a detailed analysis of the future policy context.  This involves further investigation of the future ways we can align our health improvement activities and volunteering opportunities to policy aspirations connected to the 'reshaping and changing care' agenda:

  • the personalisation of care
  • social models of prescribing
  • re-shaping care for older people and early years
  • self-directed care services
  • resource transfer to 'preventative' interventions

Our plan identifies 4 key income generation and development areas, identified and prioritised through a recent strategic review and planning process:

1. Self directed care/reshaping health and social care

2. Social enterprise product development

3. Further development of structured volunteering and support work placements.

4. Camglen Radio developments
