How We Started

The Isle of Kerrera’s Development Trust was formed to be the community body to take forward the development agenda for the island.

What We Do

The Isle of Kerrera’s first task was producing a draft development plan, following extensive community consultation, and this sets out the community’s vision for Kerrera for the next 20 years. The Plan includes targets for the following areas of work; • the improvement of transport links (both within and to the Island); • provision of affordable housing; • maximizing tourism potential; • generation of renewable energy; • community facilities; • employment; • economic development; • agriculture; • environment; • children and families. Four areas have been identified for the Association to tackle first: • the development of a community-owned wind turbine; • acquisition and improvement of the old school building to provide office, meeting and training space; • creation of pontoons for use by residents involved in marine industries; • the building and maintenance of a road link to the north of the Island.
