Neilston Development Trust

Area of Operation:

Neilston, East Renfrewshire
Greater Glasgow & Clyde Valley

Established:
2004

How We Started

Neilston: Space to Live was set up in 2004 to work for spatial and cultural renewal in Neilston. NDT incorporated in 2006 to conform to Community Right to Buy requirements, but the new company is an organic development of the original organisation.

What We Do

The acquisition of the former bank in the vilage, in November 2006, has put NDT in an entirely new position in village life. It has enabled the recuitment of a team of volunteers who run a a community cafe, and provides a base the Trust itself. NDT’s Neilston Live Festival (now in its third year) will now largely operate from “the bank”. The premises are being used on a sessional basis by a range of groups and this will grow as the facility becomes more widely known. The Trust is about to embark on a strategic planning exercise that will consider clear lines of development for the Trust; future uses for the building will be a key consideration.

Our Assets

  • A detached two-storey villa previously used as a bank, situated on Neilston Main Street
  • A growing bank of volunteers in addition to our Board
