Portree Area Community Trust

Area of Operation:

Portree, Isle of Skye
Highland & Western Isles

Approx 2000

How We Started

Portree Area Community Trust (PACT) was formed to take forward a number of community projects being discussed by the former ‘Portree Regeneration Partnership’ (a multi-agency / umbrella group which aimed to improve the quality of life for all people in Portree by progressing the regeneration of the village through strengthening the community, improving the infrastructure for business development, enhancing the environment and creating new local facilities). As a community company, it will be possible for the voluntary group PACT to operate independently of the local council; thus facilitating the ability to attract funding more easily. The group has the ability to acquire community assets such as land and buildings.

What We Do

PACT’s mission is to stimulate and coordinate the economic, cultural and environmental regeneration of Portree and district community in cooperation with existing authorities and community groups; and in response to community identified priorities. Since its incorporation in 2007, PACT has: • · Undertaken a membership drive •· Established sub-groups to look in detail at a number of regeneration projects. Namely the following:- Portree Waterfront Development Local renewable energy options Community Land Ownership Arts & Heritage Projects Researching Project Funding Identifying uses for redundant Highland Council Properties Improving sailing club slipway & facilities Identitying creative uses for the recreational area known as 'The Lump' Home Farm allotmenets

Our Future Plans

PACT is currently working with Portree Community Centre Association to investigate the best way forward for Portree Community Centre – a vital community facility which is currently under threat due to ineffective management over recent years.
