How We Started

Rosemount Development Trust was formed in November 1989 to promote economic regeneration within the Royston community.  Local residents concerned about the high level of poverty and unemployment in Royston and its surrounding areas formed the company with a view to addressing a number of issues, in particular the high levels of poverty and unemployment.  A local school building, declared surplus to the Council's requirement, was identified for continued use within the Royston community and a 15 year lease agreed with the Council.  Thereafter capital funding was secured to improve the facility for use as business premises.  In 2003 the Trust agreed new terms for a further 25 year lease on the building known as the Millburn Centre.

What We Do

We manage and maintain the Millburn Centre and are currently exploring opportunities to purchase the building.

Over the years the Trust has provided premises at the Centre to a number of voluntary sector organisations who provide a range of important services to our local community.  Many of our tenants provide employment and training opportunities along with many other essential services.

The Trust also has 2 wholly owned subsidiary companies.  In 1993 the directors of the Trust recognised that in order to achieve long term self sufficiency a larger portfolio of managed workspace was required.  Rosemount (workspace) Ltd was formed in 1997.  A derelict site in Royston was identified, and following negotiations, a lease for 125 years was concluded with Glasgow City Council  Thereafter we secured a mixed capital funding package for development of the site and new build premises.  Our funding was secured from a variety of sources, including European funds, Glasgow City Council and our private sector partners Royal Bank of Scotland.  The Charles Street site currently provides premises to a number of commercial tenants on leases ranging from 3 years to 25 years and currently enjoys 92% occupancy.  The site is managed and maintained to a very high standard by onsite staff.

Roystonhill Spire and Park Ltd was formed in November 2000 to preserve and maintain an A-Listed building known as Roystonhill Spire.

Our Future Plans

R@W Royston at Work

Rosemount (Workspace) Limited is delighted to announce its success in securing funding of £152,069 from the BIG Lottery ‘Our Place’ Fund to run a 2 year employability project aimed at impacting on youth unemployment in Royston.
As first time applicants to the Big Lottery Fund we are absolutely delighted to receive this award. As well as enabling our organisation to diversify, develop and increase our capacity to impact on unemployment in the Royston community, it will give disadvantaged young people in Royston the opportunity to improve their chances in today’s highly competitive employment market.
In partnership with North Glasgow College, Glasgow Regeneration Agency (North), Royston Youth Action and Toonspeak Young People’s Theatre, 24 young people in Royston will undertake an enhanced version of the Targeted Pathway to Apprenticeship (TPA) programme, unique to Royston’s young people.

The project will provide opportunity for young people to participate in a programme of activities that will lead to a qualification in a National Progression Award in Construction, covering trades such as carpentry, painting & decorating, plumbing, electrical, brickwork and plastering. It will also include working towards achieving a CSCS card (site safety), accreditation in PASMA (scaffold tower training), Asbestos safety awareness and a Duke of Edinburgh bronze award.
We will shortly be advertising for a new Project Co-ordinator with a view to commencing induction to the programme in April 2011. Referrals to the project can be made by individuals, local schools, housing associations, youth groups and youth development agencies.

Our future plans include further development of this project with a view to investing our own surplus funds to continue supporting young people into employment.
