How We Started

We started from discussions at Tarves Community Council in response to the need to prevent a valued recently closed GP surgery, being sold for housing in the conservation area centre of the village.  The building was felt too valuable as a public/business building. Following discussions a 'Community Business Angel' was eager to help and he purchased the building to lease it back to us. A Development Trust was formed to do this and other needed tasks in support of the community by Paul Johnston, Fiona Smith, David hekelaar and Colin Taylor.

What We Do

We are a development trust in order to deliver a locality or community plan that we are creating along side our community and Community Council.

The Tarves Development Trust is also the location for the community's assets to managed, such as our eventual aquisition of the former GP surgery in the centre of the community.

We contract a local couple to run a cafe in our community hub.

Our Assets

  • A community Hub/ with commercial cafe
  • A recreation site.

Our Future Plans

We are embarking on a community shares offer to buy the freehold of our community hub.  We are researching expanding this to ensure investment in other possible assets that will support local community development.
