How We Started

The Development Company grew out of the "Revitalising the Ettrick and Yarrow Valleys" project which ran from 2011 - 2013. This project was set up in response to local concerns about depopulation, promoting business and community development and poor communications. A significant outcome of the project was a Community Development Plan which led to several projects being identified and developed as far as detailed feasibility studies, some of which have now been taken on by the Development Company.

What We Do

The Development Company pursues a wide range of projects that can help us meet our Main Objectives - promoting the Ettrick and Yarrow Valleys as a place to live, work and visit.

Our projects are therefore aimed at increasing visitor numbers (creating and promoting walking and cycling routes, improving signage and visitor information), pursuing opportunities for affordable housing and small-scale business premises (including developing redundant and under-used buildings), improving communications (especially mobile phone and broadband coverage) and exploring opportunities for Community owned renewable energy schemes.

We liaise with the local tourism group (which was set up by the "Revitalising the Ettrick and Yarrow Valleys" project, our predecessor organisation) and the Community Council to maximise the effectiveness of all three bodies.
