Edinburgh Old Town Development Trust - Edinburgh & South East (Lothian, Borders)

Established 2009

Successful projects to date include the Patrick Geddes Gardening Club which is restoring and re-creating green spaces and gardens in the Old Town. We commissioned a conservation study into the empty former Canongate Infants' School and carried out a feasibility study into a community-based literature and literacy centre that would include: communal meeting, exhibition, rehearsal and performance space; affordable office space for incubating community and other enterprises - craftspersons, small businesses and organisations broadly involved in literacy, writing, publishing and book production. Under the project title Word Bank, the Trust has just published the first issue of a journal with writing and artwork about place 'Evergreen: A New Season in the North'. Future issues of the journal will be developed in tandem with a community programme. For further information, see http://eotdt.org/the-evergreen.
