Kirknewton Community Development Trust Ltd - Edinburgh & South East (Lothian, Borders)

Established 2006

Kirknewton Community Development Trust (KCDT) was established by the community council. A key player in the formation of the environmental justice movement, the community successfully campaigned against the proposed expansion of a local landfill site after discovering that its owners; City of Edinburgh Council did not have planning permission for the original site. After a lengthy legal battle, the council was eventually forced to pay compensation and the KCDT was set up to utilise this for the benefit of the community.
