Laggan Forest Trust - Highland & Western Isles

Established 1998

Initially the Trust established a trading subsidiary, the Laggan Forest Trust Forestry Company which was contracted to undertake a range of commercial forestry and environmental management activities. The Forestry Commission opened the Wolftrax mountain biking trails in woodland near Laggan in 2004, and in 2005 Laggan Forest Trust purchased 3 areas of land from the Forestry Commission to enable further developmental activities around forestry, tourism and recreation to be undertaken. In 2014 the Trust finally started building its own Forest Centre on its land at Wolftrax; this will incorporate a café, bike hire shop and learning space, as well as providing a permanent base for the Trust. In 2014 the Trust also employed a Business Development Officer, funded by the Scottish Government's Strengthening Communities programme, through DTAS, to help develop sustainable Forest Centre activities and business opportunities.
