Innerleithen Community Trust - Edinburgh & South East (Lothian, Borders)

Established 2004

The Trust now supports Theme Teams who are each working on drawing up a number of fully costed project proposals. A key issue identified was the need for new community facilities and with this in mind the Trust are developing a business plan for taking the Town Hall into community ownership. The Trust is also investigating the feasibility of a community owned renewable energy scheme. A two monthly What's On leaflet is produced and is popular. The Trust has purchased a small woodland that will be managed for recreational and educational use and published a book on local history. The extension of the Tweed Valley Railway Path (TVRP) is a new project in which we take the lead and will work with Walkerburn Development Trust to add another two miles to the very popular pathway that comes from Peebles as far as Innerleithen. Currently we manage a group of volunteers to maintain the Innerleithen section of the TVRP and have obtained funding to install interpretive signage at locations of historic interest. We annually arrange and fund hanging flower baskets to enhance the appearance of our High Street. Our heritage web site is now live and regular updates applied ( and behind this we have a heritage database of photographic and documentary items.
